Digital volume tomography (DVT)

The digital volume tomograph (Newtom) offers new diagnostic opportunities in the field of dentistry. This is a CT-device which uses the so called Conebeam technique. Compared to the conventional CT-diagnostics it leads to a reduction of the level of contamination by up to 80%. We use this kind of diagnostics to describe pathological processes in the area of jaw and face and for the planning of implants. Even for the diagnosis of the extraction of wisdom teeth, such scan can make sense, e.g. if there is a danger of damaging a nerve.

Examples:

X-ray fracture of the jaw boneFracture of the jaw bone

In this case, the nerve conduit goes right through the wisdom tooth. This clinical findings can only be determined by the use of a second tomography. The digital volume tomography enables a precise diagnosis and therefore helps making the right decision.
