Cheilognathopalatoschisis (cleft of lips, jaw and palate)
One out of 500 babies is born with such an opening formation; This illness is the most frequent illness which has to be treated operatively. Today, these children are treated in specialized centres which are located at the large clinical complexes mostly. Mouth-jaw and palate surgeons cooperate in such centres with other specialists to ensure the best option for the treatment. Concepts for treatment and clinic structures In the medicine processing concepts and clinic structures are often subject to a change and are partly controversial. Finding new ways is also one of the tasks of big clinical centres. Therefore we like to help along with corresponding recommendations and confine ourselves to the plastic corrections of lip jaw and palate clefts which can frequently be carried out abulatory.
Decisive impulses for the surgery of clefts were implemented by the micro surgery and modern anaesthesia. Today, such clefts can already be closed/sealed largely within the first year of life. New opportunities for the linguistic and psychosocial development of the child are now given which were not existant before.
